“The in-person group sessions are something I genuinely look forward to – they’re fun, supportive, and push me in the best way. With Vanessa’s guidance, I’ve completely shifted my mindset when it comes to the gym. What used to feel intimidating now feels empowering. I feel confident walking into the gym and actually enjoy my solo sessions too.” – Jemma

  • Ready to commit to 2-3 sessions a week, in person
  • Have a friend with similar goals and want to train together, or are happy to be matched with someone who has similar experience and goals

  • Want to build lasting, healthy lifestyle habits, not a quick fix

How Does Small Group Personal Training Work?

Step 1: Book a consultation

During a free consultation, we’ll go through your training experience and goals and build the right plan to get you results. If you don’t have a friend to train with, this is also when I’ll match you with another like-minded woman with similar goals and a similar experience level. I’ll explain how sessions work, what to expect from training together, and what I ask of my clients.

Step 2: Sign up to small group personal training

Next it’s time to commit to your goals. I’ll send you all of the information you need, that includes:

  • Welcome pack: Includes everything you need and what to expect over the next 3+ months.
  • Training agreement: outlining everything involved in small group coaching.
  • App access: so you’re set up on the coaching app with all your workouts ready to go and additional nutritional, lifestyle and training resources available.
  • Assessment period form: including a food diary, goals and any relevant information to help build your perfect programme.

Step 3: Your first session

This is the exciting part. In your consultation, I will have assessed your training level and movement quality, so by the time it comes to your first session, you’ll be working towards your training goals from the get go. There will be no time wasted. It’s also when you’ll meet your training partner and begin building a relationship with them. Getting to know each other early matters, because you’ll be leaning on one another when training gets tough, and it will.

Step 4: Get results

We’ll work together for a minimum of 12 weeks. During that time, you’ll be committed to your long-term goals through training, nutrition and lifestyle changes, with both me and your training partner there for accountability and support. Alongside your small group sessions, you’ll have regular 1-1 check-ins with me to reflect on your individual progress and stay aligned to your goal.

Step 5: What’s next?

Throughout the process, the goal isn’t to spoon-feed you information. I want you and your training partner to understand your own bodies and how they respond to training and nutrition, so that when the time comes, you both have the confidence to train independently. Most clients move on to online coaching at this stage, still getting programmes built around their goals and regular touch points, but with more freedom over how their lifestyle fits around it. Others choose to stay on with small group training long term if they’d rather keep the in-person, shared experience.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

I'm a complete beginner, can I sign up?

If you’re brand new to training, I would recommend signing up to 1-1 Personal Training for the first few months whilst you learn the fundamentals of training and technique. Then once you’re confident in the gym, you can transition over to small group personal training. That being said, I want my coaching to be as inclusive as possible, therefore if you’re a beginner and small group personal training is the most suitable option, I can accommodate this.

What if I don't feel ready to start?

Here’s a secret: almost nobody feels ready when they sign up. If you’ve read this far and you’re considering it, you’re ready. There’s no perfect moment to begin. If you’re fed up with not making progress and feeling stuck in a rut, that’s usually the sign it’s time to start.

Where is the gym located?

The studio is based in Salford, right on Manchester’s doorstep: Unit 4, 325 Ordsall Ln, Salford M5 3LW. There is free onsite parking available.

Is there a minimum number of sessions each week?

To get the most out of working together, I ask for a minimum of two sessions a week. That’s enough if you’re a beginner. Further down the line I might suggest a third session, which you can complete independently in your own gym.

Is there a minimum commitment period?

This isn’t a quick fix. Working with me is about transforming your lifestyle so you not only reach your goals, but keep those results long term. Because of that, I ask for a minimum 12-week commitment.

What if I don't have someone to train with?

No problem at all, most of my small group clients start this way. I’ll match you with another woman who has similar goals and a similar training experience, so you’ve got a partner from day one.

Will my training partner be at a similar experience level?

Yes. Part of putting you together with a training partner is making sure you’re evenly matched, so neither of you is holding the other back or feeling out of their depth.

How many people are included in small group personal training?

Small group training runs of group sizes 2-4 people. The number in the group depends on the availability of people waiting to train who have a similar experience level and training goals. There are groups for both beginners and intermediate lifters, so you’ll never be placed somewhere that you don’t feel comfortable.

Will I still get 1-1 support?

Yes. Your programme, nutrition guidance and progress check-ins are still built around you individually, you’re simply sharing the session time and the accountability with someone else.

Can my friend join me for training?

Yes, if you’ve already got a friend with similar goals, you’re welcome to sign up together rather than being matched with a training partner.

How long will it take to get results?

This really is an ‘it depends’ question. It depends on how much change you’re willing to commit to in terms of your nutrition, lifestyle and training. If you take a more disciplined approach, you’ll get results quicker. However, the most important thing is sustainability, I’d much rather you spend the time building healthy habits without sacrificing doing the things you love and they become engrained in your everyday living. I ask for a minimum of 12-weeks working together in order for you to begin seeing meaningful change.

I'm pregnant, can I still sign up?

If you’re pregnant, you must work with me on a 1-1 or online coaching basis as training needs to be specific to your condition to ensure the safety of both you and your baby. If you’re signing up as a new client and you’re pregnant you must be in the second trimester, signed off by a midwife and not considered a high risk pregnancy to ensure you are safe to exercise. If you have any questions on this please drop me an email at hello@paiigefitness.co.uk

Do you work with mums and postnatal women?

Absolutely! I’m a fully qualified level 3 Pre and Post Natal specialist, accredited by Active IQ.

Do you provide nutrition plans?

I provide meal plan guides, recipe books, protein cheat sheets and work with you to adapt these and use them for inspiration to adjust your current diet. I will always remain in my scope of practice and ensure the advice I’m providing is safe and within my boundaries, whilst helping you work towards your goals. This advice will be tailored to you, even if you’re training in a small group.

Do you work with women using GLP-1 medications, such as Mounjaro?

Yes, in fact, I’ve invested in expanding my education around weight loss jabs to make sure I’m confident and the best personal trainer to work with women using medication to aid weight-loss. I can’t stress the importance of resistance training for women using weight loss jabs, as lean tissue including muscle can constitute up to 40% of total weight loss.

I'm really unfit/overweight. Will I feel out of place?

My approach to training is centred around inclusivity. Making sure that every single woman who works with me feels comfortable, confident and capable, regardless of your fitness levels or weight.

The training and guidance I give will be tailored to you and meeting you exactly where you’re at. It doesn’t matter where you start as long as you’re prepared to put the work in to get where you want to be.

If you’re a beginner to the gym or resistance training, I would recommend you begin working with me in a 1-1 personal training (link to 1-1 personal training page) capacity. This will give you the space to train at your own pace and spend more time with me working on the basics and improving your technique lifting weights.

Is this a women's only gym?

Although I am a women’s only personal trainer, the gym is not women’s only. There are a combination of male and female clients and coaches who also work in the space. However, within your small group personal training, it will be women only.
