Reality: Restrictive diets don’t work in the long run. In the past, I’ve had clients come to me that have tried Keto, Weight Watchers, intermittent fasting and Slimming World, all of which they’ve had no luck with. They may have seen short term results, but the extreme restriction meant that they were not able to sustain them, and either ended up back where they started, or worse.
Many people take an all or nothing approach to their diet, they’re either super restrictive or eat anything and everything. This is not the way to get results and you’ll eventually create a very bad relationship with food if you continue to do so. The media have done an excellent job of creating ‘good’ and ‘bad’ foods, which has altered the way we think about our diets.
When you yoyo diet like this, it can have a massive impact on your mental, physical and nutritional health. You can become obsessive about what you eat, and eventually, it slowly begins to take over your life. This often ends in a blowout, and you never really learn about how to properly fuel your body.
